Well, I think primarily because of the influence of K, I have become environmentally aware too. Upon the arrival of the New Year, I was thinking of how to measure the effectiveness of the government's anti-firecracker campaign aside from casualties and raids. I think we should measure the air quality between 10PM of December 31, and 2AM of January 1 every year and make a historical database on the air quality. Hopefully, decreasing consumption of fireworks/firecrackers leads to an improvement of air quality during New Year's Eve.
We (My family and I) joined the celebration at Ayala Ave. in Makati City, and watched Makati's 15 minute firework display. Excerpt of the finale above. Upon finishing the presentation, we drove back via EDSA, and the highway is just covered with a thick layer of smog. Our neighborhood wasn't spared as it was also covered in smog. I was lucky that my house was locked tight with no open windows (I know, I know, windows and doors should be opened during New Year, but not with that thick smog knocking on my door). I was also about to turn on my A/C unit, but I'm not letting that smog kill me in my sleep!

| No, it's not a mistake in focusing or noise, or fogging up lens, it's really just smoggy! |
I think there should be a study on the happiness one derives from looking at pretty lights, and the toll it costs the environment and people's well-being. I think in this new age, traditions and practicality have to reach a certain middle-ground for everyone's maximum benefit.
